A lot to take in....

The past week has been a busy one. The house is still in a bit of chaos since the new floors are in but we're still in the process of painting it, putting in new modeling and getting some plumbing done. It sucks, but it's great at the same time because it's all coming together. It'll look brand new for when we sell it next spring.

The weekend was busy with me working the part time job and galloping around from picnic to picnic. Jeff worked a bunch of doubles but we did see each other on Monday and I took Tuesday off so we could have some "us" time. I realize this precious time will be fewer and farther between very soon. I can't believe I'm already 21 weeks pregnant. It's going by so fast.

Tuesday during the day we hit Babies R Us and registered. That was quite overwhelming. While Jeff has been through this before, even though it was 14 years ago, he's better equipped than me. He knows what safety things to get, blankets, car seats, etc. He was in charge of "the gun." I however tried very hard to hold it together as I imagined our house being taken over by this slew of pink equipment. Bath tubs, bouncers, high chairs, blankets, swaddlers, hampers, pacifiers, onsies... you name it, it's on the registry. And I still have to figure out our password so I can put a new gate on it and take off a few things.

Phew! And Babies R Us was happy to print out the list once we were done (an hour and a half later) and tell us what they think we missed. Huh? Yup.... don't ask.

Then we headed to lunch, a movie (MIB3 was surprisingly funny and touching and I am glad we saw it in the theaters, despite the fact that the pug was only in a picture over "J's" bed and on a billboard at Coney Island advertising a talking pug. LOL

Then we had a 5 o'clock appointment with our first pediatrician in the running. I felt extremely unprepared as most mothers come with a list in which to drill said pediatrician. I did not. Had this been an interview with a potential vet, I would have been prepared. "What is your view on a raw diet? How do you treat allergies? What are your views on positive training? What is your approach to treating allergies? What ER vet do you work with? Do you ever plan on selling your practice to a corporate conglomerate? How many pugs do you have in your practice?. . . . " And I could go on and on. Sad that I didn't have half of these questions ready for the baby doctor.

He did most of the talking though, thankfully, and was very nice. I did like his approach to raising babies. "You have to see what the temperament is and handle them according to that. Just because the book says they should be on solids as this age, doesn't mean your daughter will be. We work with the baby's personalities and needs." I liked this, a lot. He asked if I had planned to nurse and I told him yes, of course. And he said that they encourage it and the staff at the hospital will be sure to help me in anyway. This includes writing us a script for a breast pump so we get the BEST. "So take that cheap one off your registry!" (Hence my need to figure out the damn password for the Babies R Us site.)

So one down, a few more to go. But we liked him and so far, even though he's the first one we interviewed, he's at the top of our list.

Next week we have another interview, a visit with the OB, and another ultrasound. And the week after that we have a breastfeeding class and a tour of the birthing center. It is going to be a crazy one. It will also be another reality check that in less than 19 weeks, Baby Lowd will be here, in person, and not something that's making my waistline expand.

On another note, she has been VERY active since the weekend. It's weird and cool and again, overwhelming all the same.
